FAQs

What artworks does Art Directly purchase?

Art Directly specialises in paintings and sculptures only; we don’t purchase collectables such as jewellery, rugs, or other valuables.
Art Directly focuses primarily, but not exclusively, on established Australian artists.
We must believe the artwork has resale value for us to take on the risk of finding a purchaser.

Are there base requirements for an artwork to be considered?

While we don’t have any hard rules in place, the artworks we consider for purchase generally will be:

  • Established (Australian) artist

  • AUD$5,000 minimum value

  • Subject to confirmation of authenticity

Are there artworks Art Directly will not consider?

Unfortunately, due to a lack of expertise in the field, at this stage we are unable to consider indigenous Australian art.

Art Directly does not consider submissions from self-represented artists.

What does Art Directly do with purchased art?

This depends on the art that Art Directly agrees to buy and the timing in the market. Art Directly will usually hold the art for a period of at least 6 months from acquisition, and then an additional short or long term depending on our market analysis and other factors such as potential to find a new purchaser.
Should you have additional wishes regarding how and when it may go for sale; Art Directly makes all efforts to meet those wishes and where appropriate will include those terms in our agreement to buy.

How are Art Directly offers determined?

In determining offers Art Directly takes into consideration the artist, the specific work for sale, the current art landscape, as well as our assessment and projections of the secondary art market.
All offers are indicative only and subject to verification of authenticity of artworks.

Is there a maximum limit of artwork value that will be considered?

Art Directly will purchase outright works up to a value of AUD$1,000,000.

How are payments made?

Once an agreement has been made for the purchase of your art, Art Directly will make a lump sum payment to your nominated bank account via wire transfer within one week.
You hold onto your art until payment has been made.

Do I need to arrange delivery of art?

No, you don’t have to do anything. We’re here to make things easy, remember!
Art Directly will arrange for collection and transfer of your art once purchased. Our representative will liaise with you to arrange a suitable time within two days of payment.

How does Art Directly verify the authenticity and quality of the art?

Our experts have been working in the art industry for a long time, and have a strong knowledge on art and assessing authenticity. Prior to an agreement being formed we may request to have one of our team visit the artwork to inspect it and provide a report. Oftentimes a photograph of the artwork and an undertaking by you the seller as to the work’s authenticity will be sufficient in meeting our requirements for forming an agreement.

Can I get my own valuation?

Art Directly welcomes you getting your own independent estimate as to what your art may sell for via any third party auction or gallery or other party before (or after) you seek our offer.
In fact, we will often ask you for a copy of this if you’ve arranged it, as it assists us in ensuring we are working within the same ball park and helps us advise if Art Directly is right for you.

Who does Art Directly service?

There may be many reasons for wanting to sell your art without delay or uncertainty. Some of the frequent beneficiaries of Art Directly are:
• Private art collectors
• Superannuation fund art collectors
• Family art sales
• Those seeking realisation of art value in order to explore other investment opportunities

Why wouldn’t I go to auction first?

We firmly believe you have to do what is best for you based on your own circumstances.

That being said, attempting to sell artworks at auction has risks, especially if the artwork doesn’t sell. This can impact the value of your artwork and also its chances of success in the future.

We strongly recommend consulting Art Directly first before exploring auction or consignment for your artwork.

Will Art Directly provide confidentiality for the sale?

Confidentiality is guaranteed in all transactions unless it is agreed or required for provenance.
